2017 Supersprint Results: Club Lotus CSCA Round 1
WAKEFIELD PARK CIRCUIT, Goulburn, in the Combined Sports Car Association (CSCA) Supersprint Series
Steve Perry, Sporting Secretary
Here are the final results summary attached for the Lotus CSCA Round – first round for 2017;
We only had 5 drivers enter from MGCC supporting this event, and all had a good day in excellent weather and friendly air temperatures – almost perfect all day, especially for Goulburn!
Regular drivers Fitzroy (Chris) Scheffer was running his race prepped MX-5, Garry Williams ran his beaut MGB and Gary Maher was back for more in his Ford Escort MKI. Craig Perry returned to supersprints in his Stohr WF1 Sports racer prototype, and I ran in the MGCGT.
Shame we did not have a few more runners from our Club to start off the season well! Where are our sporting drivers?
Craig Perry’s modern sports racer is all down force and low weight and he drove it very well indeed, resulting in Fastest Time of the Day: 0:58secs, and first in his Class R3, in spite of a few gremlins causing a delay in throttle response.
Chris Scheffer and his MX-5
Chris Scheffer pushed his MX-5 around very well for a 1:14 .7. Garry managed a 1:16.8 which would be off his best time at Wakefield.
Gary Maher did a reliable 1:23.9 in the Escort.
Craig and I shared a garage in pit lane, and even with the help of John Virtue from our club, who had come down to watch a CSCA supersprint, and to help us; we did not sit down all day. John was of great assistance when my battery finally gave out and we had to replace it 10 minutes before the first run.
Mission was completed and I went out for the warm up lap, and then problems – the rear end felt very soft indeed, and seemed to be moving about, so a very slow warm up and one lap at a gentle speed only was completed before I came back in.
Sure enough when we were under the car John noticed a shiny mark on the rear suspension from movement and then the missing nut and broken U-bracket. No replacement was found in Goulburn, so that was my day over and out – 1 lap! We then spent the rest of the day assisting Craig with his car checks and re-fueling etc, and his seat belts. Thus the Perrys managed to take out the fastest AND the slowest lap times of the day!
Unfortunately I had no time to check up on other drivers except if we caught up on the dummy grid or watching from the pit wall. No one suppled me with any photos from the day, so I have used some shots from the library.
Lets hope we have a much better turn out at the next MGCC Round 2 on Sunday 2nd April 2017!
NOTE: At the ensuing CSCA delegates meeting it has been decided to split the Class D into Classic and Modern cars as we have done for the non-marque classes. Thus modern supercharged Lotus cars will NOT be in the same class as older marque cars like Jag MKII etc.
