The MG Car Club Sydney

Dick Cobden and Douglas Williams, two young men from Sydney, were instrumental in forming the MGCC after a visit in 1949 to the famous MG factory at Abingdon in the U.K. The M.G.Car Club NSW held its first AGM in February 1950 and became the first MG Club in Australia.

In the early days, all applications for membership were sent to the parent Club in the UK for validation with part of the annual subscription also remitted to the UK club. Motorsport and social activities became a focus of the Club, culminating in the MGCC promoting and organising its own race meetings at Amaroo and Oran Park raceways in Sydney. Both tracks have since been sold for housing development.

Although affiliations remain strong with the MG Car Club UK, the MGCC Limited is a registered non profit company that presently operates under the Companies Act 1961. The club is also affiliated with other major motoring organisations and MG car clubs across Australia.

The club’s basic charter is to further the interests of owners of MG cars and to promote and maintain the MG name through sporting and social activities. However, the Club is happy to accept membership from non MG owners, and any car of choice!

The club is run by a committed and knowledgeable contingent of volunteers, with no paid employees. Management consists of an honorary committee and registrars representing each of the MG models and other specialist positions responsible for sporting, concourse & displays and social events. Election of officers is conducted at the MGCC Annual General Meeting held each November.
